Sculptor, Barbara Fletcher, creates eccentric cast paper wall hangings, pedestal pieces and masks. Wet paper pulp is molded by hand in plaster casts she makes from clay forms. The pieces are painted with vibrant procion dyes to give a wonderful luminosity. The paper is made in many layers for durability. "Interested in things beneath the surface, her art serves as a therapeutic channel to funnel the uncommon images of her dreams to man. Combinations of animals, humans and insects, Fletcher says her dreams are always very colorful, playful and bizarre, much like her work". But she will protest: (even when she works in a more naturalistic mode) "They are not superficial . They have character."
