Barbara Herbster has been weaving, and contributing scarves, shawls and hats to Cambridge Artist Co-Operative for some 15 years. Barbara's weaving exhibits a clean simple appearance with a strong emphasis on color and texture. Often inspiration comes from colors suggested by a painting, an experience, or nature. She achieves a balanced appearance in her weaving, without the fabric being symmetrical. The aim is to give the person who studies the piece a little surprise for his attention. Barbara extends her teaching
opportunities by writing for weaving magazines. Lately her work has
appeared in "Handwoven Magazine". Interweave Press used her
shawl pictured here on the cover of "Design Collection # 19".
Handweavers Guild of America recently asked Barbara to write and lead a
learning exchange exploring the relatively new material, bamboo yarn.
