Barbara Willis

When I took my first weaving course over 30 years ago in Los Gatos, California, I realized I had discovered what I wanted to do with the rest of my life.  Weaving incorporates many interests I have enjoyed over the years, including creative handwork and love of art.  Weaving was, and is, very exciting to me.

Weaving threads of chenille, silk, cotton, bamboo, rayon, wool, and mohair, I create one-of-a-kind scarves, throws, and garments.  My line of garments is called "Along the Silk Road."  I love choosing different textures, different colors, and watching how they interact as I weave them.  I try to bring some luminosity to each piece I create.

Since moving to Massachusetts from California in 1979, I have been trying to incorporate the free, creative spirit which I felt in California with the more technical aspects of weaving which I find in Massachusetts.  I am working to become better technically while trying to maintain a vibrancy and creativity in my work.  I hope I succeed at least part of the time.  I enjoy taking risks with my work, and especially enjoy when those risks work!

I like people; love to see people wear and enjoy my work.  That helps feed the creative side of me.
